Needs new firmware too handle that 6hz band. Other firmware we loaded highs at 6hz to high!! Allen Ross the speaker man did a great review on it... Great speaker, I plan on buying another, but as the rest of people? We wait until you fix the problem..
First off, I have not used this unit extensively yet. I gave it a full charge, synced it to my phone, and streamed some music to try it for functionality in my home. Quantifying sound quality is always subjective to an individual's personal tastes. Everyone has differing opinions. To my ears, this speaker system is pleasing, particularly given its relatively compact size. I tested it with "LoveShine" by Reverend Barry & The Funk, due to this track having a nice combination of fairly deep bass and some crisp brass. The Motion Boom Plus does a respectable job, from low volume to maximum volume. Will the bass rattle the fillings out of your teeth? No, but there is still plenty enough bass. Anyone looking to cause an earthquake is expecting too much from a portable unit anyway. The highs are very crisp and clear, and the mid range is quite acceptable to me as well. Battery standby time is good. I fully charged this unit and ten days later it was still at 100 percent charge. The shoulder strap clips and mount brackets on the speaker appear to be an alloy metal, so they should be very durable. The only thing about this unit that concerns me is the passive radiators on the ends of the unit. Being as they don't have any sort of protective grill, I'm worried that they could become accidentally damaged. I don't plan on taking this thing through the wilderness, but it still seems to me that it would have been better to provide a little protection for the radiators. I bought this speaker system with no real purpose in mind, primarily due to my previous positive experience with the Anker/Soundcore headsets. I think I will likely use it while working on landscaping around the house, and maybe strap it to the underside of my bicycle frame when I ride the bike trails. The bottom line is I'm happy with the audio quality, the capability to charge portable devices from the speaker system, the various other features such as bass up, IP67 fully waterproofed, etc. This is yet another quality product from Soundcore.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I like the speaker, but am a little disappointed. It’s got great volume…this thing can blast your backyard out and keep your neighbors up if you live on anything less than an acre. However the treble can sound harsh on some tracks and you can hear scratching/hissing when singers “sing those Ss”. I’ve heard other reviewers online and YouTube express the same experience.
I’ve tried everything in the EQ, but SOUNDCORE if you’re listening, please update the firmware to take out whatever is causing that, and bring the sound closer to the fidelity of the original Motion Boom. Thanks. Also, before it’s asked or assumed…I am using the .29 latest firmware available.
UPDATE 6/21/22: First off I want to thank Soundcore for following up with me via email to assure me they were working on an update to be released the next week. Then sure enough, the morning the update was released, I got an email from the same rep letting me know it’s available. I downloaded and installed it. MUCH improved, much smoother treble and bass. Much easier to tolerate inside….sounds much better. So it will blast your patio into oblivion, it can rock a beach or pool party with ease, and now you can listen to it inside as this latest update has removed the harshness. Great job and quick response Soundcore. I’ve had decent battery, about 10 hrs at 60-70 percent (which sounds blasting if you’re within 20-30 feet). Not bad. 5 stars!
I have owned several soundcore products. With all being solid products. This is a nice loud punchy speaker.BUT I feel it needs a tuning update.Treble can get quite harsh and midrange needs to be pulled forward some.I still own a pair of the motion boom speakers.Which has a great balanced sound. And with a little tweaking in a firmware update. The Plus would be the Beast.Yeah,I know I can customize EQ settings. But why.I don't want to tell people connecting to it that they'll need to customize EQ 1st.I own a pair of the boom plus and still recommend the speaker.
I received this product yesterday, and excitedly paired it with my Google Pixel 6 phone. When I tried to play music, there was horrible static every second interrupting the music. Completely unlistenable. Confused, I re-initiated the Bluetooth connection. Same issue. I toggled Bluetooth off and on, power-cycled the speaker, and a few other things. No dice. I thought maybe the speaker was physically damaged at this point and I'd have to return it.
Playing a hunch, I paired it with my iPad. No issues! Excellent sound. Next I tried my wife's OnePlus 8 Pro phone. No issues, great sound. I then opened the SoundCore app on my phone and used it to update the firmware on the Motion Boom Plus - and voila, now I have excellent sound when paired with my Pixel 6.
The thing is, most people won't think to update the firmware on a Bluetooth speaker - so I predict some negative reviews and returns of the product. Anker should have done a better job testing their product with various phones because the Pixel 6 is a popular phone.
That issue aside, there's a lot to like about this product. The sound quality is quite excellent for the size - lots of bottom end, perhaps too much for some people, but you can turn off the bass boost with a button. And the SoundCore app lets you assign different EQs. It uses USB-C to charge, and doesn't have the silly limitation of some other Anker products where it will only charge via a USB-A to USB-C connector. The material quality is high, and it feels solid and great for outdoor use.
All in all this is a solid product from what I can tell so far.
